SAN FRANCISCO (KGO) — The Cinemark theater at San Francisco’s Westfield mall will be closing, a company official has confirmed.
Cinemark sent an email to its customers announcing the closure of the theater after Thursday.

Cinemark’s website confirms that there are no film screenings scheduled for Friday or beyond.
A representative from Cinemark provided this statement to ABC7 News:
“Cinemark can confirm that after a thorough review of local business conditions, it has decided to permanently close 9 Century San Francisco Center and the XD Theater nearing the end of their lease.”
It’s the latest blow to the downtown shopping district.
Westfield announced Monday that it is giving up the mall and transferring management to its lender.
In addition, there were numerous closures of other companies in the region.

Despite the challenges, Mayor London Breed looks to what may be next.
“These venues will remain open,” she said. “But have a conversation with lenders, the business community and others, including our educational institutions. UCSF, Berkeley, Stanford who have an interest in expanding in our space.”
Before Cinemark closed, Westfield said occupancy at the San Francisco Center had dropped to 55%.
Nationwide, Westfield’s average occupancy rate is about 93%.
