Cirque du Soleil: 30 years of lighting up Quebec – TVA Nouvelles

Quebec’s talent has radiated beyond its borders for many years.

Cirque du Soleil has been shining in Las Vegas for 30 years, but it all started in a Nevada hotel parking lot.

“We set up a tent in the parking lot of the Mirage Hotel to test the market, and it worked,” recalls Michel Laprise, creative director for Cirque du Soleil.

In 1993, the circus bet on the desert of this American state, a bet that paid off greatly for both the circus and Quebec’s internationally represented culture.

Known for its extravagant performances, diverse themes and talented performers, Cirque du Soleil has excelled on the international stage.

“Mystère” and “O” in particular enabled Cirque du Soleil to establish itself in the gambling city and thus become a must-see entertainment offering in Las Vegas.

The projects follow each other

Because success creates demand, the projects came together quickly. In 2003 the show “Zumanity” took place, followed a year later by “KA”.

After 30 years, Cirque du Soleil still has a strong presence in the Nevada desert with six active productions, equivalent to 60 shows per week.

“No matter who owns the shares, we are a Quebec company,” says Mr. Laprise. “The impact of Cirque du Soleil is enormous, we are truly anchored in Quebec.”

The show À Vos Affairs went behind the scenes at Cirque du Soleil to highlight the last thirty creative and colorful years of this national landmark.
