“This is a very real, very extensive investigation into potentially serious federal crimes,” said Elie Honig said Wednesday morning on the network. “We see federal prosecutors in Delaware doing exactly what you would expect federal prosecutors to do in this situation.”

Honey said it appears investigations into Hunter Biden’s foreign dealings are “gaining momentum”.

Hunter Biden’s history of drug use and his connections in the international business community have been the subject of scorn from Republicans and his father’s critics for years.

Trump’s first impeachment came after a call to the President of Ukraine, in which Trump pressured the Ukrainian leader to help him dig up dirt on Hunter Biden, who had been doing business with a corrupt oil and gas company in the country.

“Why did the Moscow Mayor’s wife give the two Bidens $3.5 million? That’s a lot of money,” Trump said. “I think Putin would know the answer to that. I think he should publish them.”

Many media outlets, through independent fact-checking, have dismissed some of Trump’s various corruption allegations against the Bidens. Still, the Washington Post this week published a 3,000-word investigative report confirming key details of Hunter Biden’s business dealings in China.

The Justice Department is reportedly continuing to investigate possible illegal lobbying allegations against a consulting firm linked to Ukrainian energy company Burisma, of which Hunter Biden once sat on the board.

“There is a reasonable chance that this could lead to federal indictments,” Honig said. “Obviously we would then be in unprecedented political territory — not legal territory, but a situation where there may be the Justice Department prosecuting the President’s son and attempting to incarcerate him.”
