Concern over the disappearance of a reporter in Hong Kong news

The Hong Kong Journalists’ Association has expressed concern following the disappearance of a well-known reporter following her trip to a security conference in China. The organization today asked the South China Morning Post for more information about journalist Minnie Chan.

She also asked friends and family to provide more information. As reported by the Japanese news agency Kyodo, citing Chan’s friends, the journalist for the South China Morning Post, specialized in Chinese defense and diplomacy, has not been available since she participated in the Xiangshan Forum in Beijing at the end of October.

Contacted by news agency AFP, the Hong Kong newspaper said Chan took a “personal break”. The family informed the newspaper that Chan was in Beijing “but needed time to resolve a private matter”, explained the medium. Chan said she was “safe” but asked that her privacy be respected.
