Mustard, oil… Some products are missing from the supermarket shelves. This could become even more pronounced in the coming months due to the energy crisis.

In recent months, bottlenecks on supermarket shelves have been linked. Some products such as biscuits, mustard, sauces or coffee are missing. Out-of-shelf rates hit a record high of 5.7% in August 2022. This compares to 3.8% in August 2021. Some customers have put away for fear of shortages. “I took two glasses of mustard, but one large and one small (…) a little more than usual,” says one woman.

Mustard, vinaigrette, products for the fire, oil, still and sparkling water are absent. These shortages are partly due to the war in Ukraine, the weather and Covid-slowed transport. “In the coming months, we risk a slightly greater shortage due to the increase in energy prices for certain industrial companies,” estimates an expert in the industry. These slumps would have caused 2.7 billion euros in lost revenue.
