Corona in Austria: new decline in new infections and hospital patients l Pequeno l Pequeno

The number of new corona infections in Austria continues to decline. More tests were reported from Friday to Saturday than the week before, but the number of new infections dropped from 6,536 to 5,199 new cases from last Saturday. The PCR test positivity rate is now 3.5 percent, up from 5.1 percent last week, as reported by the Ministry of Health and the Interior.

The current number of new infections of 5,199 is below the average for the last seven days, with 5,928 new cases. The seven-day incidence is now 462.1 cases per 100,000 population. Yesterday, Friday, it was still at 477.0. Active cases dropped by 2,750 in one day. As of Saturday, 79,847 in Austria were suffering from a current infection.

The federal state with the highest seven-day incidence is currently Vienna with 621.6, followed by Lower Austria, Burgenland and Upper Austria (584.1, 535.6 and 406, respectively). Then comes Carinthia (386.3), Salzburg (374.3), Styria (337.2), Vorarlberg (311) and Tyrol (274.3). A total of 160,133 rapid PCR and antigen tests were recorded in the last 24 hours. Of these, 150,570 were significant PCR tests. That’s over 21,000 tests from the previous week. In all, there are now 236,365,774 corona tests performed.

Also a decline in hospital patients

There was also a decline in hospital patients. There are currently 1,247 people with Covid-19 in the hospital, 106 fewer than on Friday. Therefore, 87 people had to be treated in intensive care units. That number has dropped by 12 since yesterday and dropped by 34 patients in a week.

However, there were also 18 deaths in the last 24 hours. These people died with or from SARS-CoV-2. 121 deaths were recorded in the last seven days. In total, the Covid 19 pandemic has already claimed 18,156 lives in Austria since its inception. The Agency for Health and Food Safety (AGES) panel shows 19,536 deaths. The discrepancy arises because the numbers have been reported since last week.

Number of corona vaccines is stagnant

The number of vaccinations has been stagnant for some time. 5,865 points were administered on Friday. Of these, 204 were first bites, 693 vaccinations were second bites, and 4,968 were third bites. According to e-vaccination card data, more than 6.8 million people have received at least one vaccine. That’s 76 percent of the total population. More than 6.1 million people and therefore 68.3% of Austrians have valid vaccine protection. The protection rate (valid vaccination certificate) is highest in Burgenland at 74.5%. In Lower Austria, 70.5 percent of the population has valid vaccination protection, in Styria 69 percent. After Vienna (67.2), Tyrol (66.2), Carinthia (65.1), Salzburg (64.4) and Vorarlberg (64.3), Upper Austria follows with 64 percent.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, there have been 4,140,543 confirmed cases in Austria. 4,042,540 people have recovered from an infection.
