Costa Rica will host an environmental sustainability summit

San Jose, October 4 (Prensa Latina) Some 150 trade and environmental representatives from Latin America and the Caribbean, the European Union and international organizations will attend the first OECD Ministerial Summit on Environmental Sustainability here, official sources reported today.

The First Ministerial Summit on Environmental Sustainability of the Regional Program for Latin America and the Caribbean of the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), taking place tomorrow, represents an opportunity to join forces for a more sustainable and equitable future.

There will be discussions about how sustainable business and trade with other nations can be harmonized, Foreign Trade Minister Manuel Tovar said in a press conference.

It is also a call for joint and supportive action, for the exchange of knowledge and experiences in order to meet global and regional challenges in a coordinated and effective manner, he emphasized.

He said that the results of the summit will also be highly relevant in the context of the next United Nations Ocean Conference in 2025, an event led by the joint action of Costa Rica and France.

He recalled that, as an example of this leadership, this Central American country promoted the creation of the environmental pillar within the regional program for Latin America and the Caribbean.

In turn, Minister of Environment and Energy Franz Tattenbach noted that both Latin America and the Caribbean face complex challenges related to the triple global crisis of climate change, pollution and biodiversity loss.

We are one of the regions most vulnerable to climate change, which is why we need to promote the development of public policies for mitigation and adaptation. As a country, we are leading innovative green and fair trade projects such as agricultural landscapes and will continue to promote innovative initiatives like these for the world, the official said.

The summit is an ideal place to exchange knowledge, best practices and innovative solutions that enable progress towards a more sustainable future in the region, he concluded.
