Formalization is imminent and should absolutely excite all fans of the multiplayer FPS franchise between a team of terrorists and a group of counter-terrorists. Counter-Strike, one of the most beautiful gems in Valve history, will have a sequel, 23 years after its publication.
This is an opportunity for the studio to make a major update to the graphics engine and game mechanics. Here is everything the game has in store for us in detail.
Counter-Strike 2 Release Date
While the gaming community has only had the words “Counter-Strike” in their mouths for a few weeks, rumors of a sequel to the game are so persistent, several clues point to this the upcoming release of the game on Steam.
First of all, it was an update of the NVIDIA drivers that attracted the attention of the most curious, since there are two files with evocative names:
If those elements alone were already enough to generate excitement, things seem to be getting seriously clearer because if Valve still hasn’t officially announced the sequel, Changes have been made to the Steam data plane. If these changes are not easily understood, a Thread posted on Twitter by developer Aquarius came to formalize what they concretely explained:
- To make it short, These changes bring with them the сse2.ехе application executable СЅ:GО (Counter Strike Global Offensive).
These additions should be beta tested very soon, which could mean two possibilities:
Unfortunately for fans already eagerly awaiting a possible Half-Life 3, Valve shouldn’t be so generous. Especially since CS:GO is recording ever higher viewership peaks more than 10 years after its release. For your information, 1,420,183 players were registered on Steam CS:GO on March 11th – an all-time high for the game.
What new gameplay features in Counter Strike 2?
Based on the snippets of information gathered so far, the system of this possible Counter Strike 2 game shouldn’t really differ from what we know from CS:GO. So it will always be a Multiplayer FPS based on team play, where you have to play the role of a terrorist cell / anti-terrorist cell. The game is divided into 6 modes:
- Competition – classic mode
- danger area
- agony
- War Games (Arms Race, Demolition, Takeover, Flying Sniper)
- casual
- wingman
The most prevalent game mode that has established the reputation of the license is obviously the Bomb Scenario mode, where terrorists have to place a bomb at a specific location on the map. The counter-terrorists are then tasked with effectively defending the area or defusing it before the allotted time has elapsed.
THE Hostage scenario mode is another essential element of Counter-Strike, but works on a slightly different principle, as it’s up to the Counter-Terrorists to play the offensive card.
Counter-Strike 2 maps
Counter-Strike maps are always one of the most anticipated aspects for gamers. They are of several types:
- de_, for maps with defuse mode
- cs_, for maps with hostage mode
- dz_, for maps conforming to Danger Zone mode
- ar_, for cards related to Arms Race mode
Of course, Valve and the community are working hand-in-hand to provide ever more creative maps, and it’s certain that new map types will emerge with the upcoming major update.
What weapons will there be in Counter Strike 2?
Traditionally, weapons in the Counter-Strike series are divided into four categories (very useful besides the knife to humiliate opponents in the worst possible way):
- Rifles (AK-47, Galil, FAMAS, AWP, etc.)
- Pistols (Glock-18, TEC-9, Desert Eagle, Revolver R8, etc.)
- Submachine guns (MAC-10, MP9, P90, UMP-45, etc.)
- Heavy Weapons (M249, Negev, XM 1014, etc.)
In addition to these attack options, each player has the possibility to equip themselves with defensive protections (helmets, kevlar vests), grenades with different effects (lightning, smoke, explosives, decoy or incendiary) as well as other disposable items (we are thinking here of the defusing kit that anti-terrorists allows to shorten the time … of defusing).
Counter Strike 2: On which platform?
Unsurprisingly, the game will be available upon release on PC via Steam. Counter-Strike is one of the most iconic representatives of Valve’s service (it might even be the biggest). If CS:GO was also developed for PS3 and Xbox 360 at the time of its release, we can assume that the migration or update that will take place will mean the arrival of the title on the new generation consoles PS5 and Xbox series.
