The Cuban soccer team participating in el Concacaf U20 Championship Thanks to the performance of midfielder Kevin Martin, he defeated Canada 1-0 this Saturday.
The sporting event, held in Teguicigalpa, Honduras, brings together teams from North America, Central America and the American Antilles ahead of the U-20 World Cup.
Martín scored the winning goal in the 42nd minute of the game, and Cuba became the buzzword of the event, as It is not a sport in which the island receives important recognition, despite the huge fans it has in the country.
In the game, Cubans made 14 shots and 219 passes, committed 15 fouls and received two yellow and one red card.

Martín not only scored the Cubans’ first goal of the championship, but also had to act as an improvised goalkeeper because, according to the newspaper El Heraldo, first-choice goalkeeper Ismael Morgado was sent off in the 75th minute.
“It was a spectacular triumph for Cuba when they defeated a Canadian team that was the clear favorite for this game,” the newspaper stressed on its website.
This Monday, the Cubans return to the field to take on Saint Kitts and Nevis, who lost 10-0 to the United States on the first day of competition, at the Chelato Uclés stadium.
Next Thursday, Cubans and Americans will face off and that concludes the group stage, which will determine the teams that will advance to the round of 16 that begins on Saturday.
The Concacaf U20 Championship runs until July 4 when it will be known which country will be the new champions, a position currently held by the United States, who achieved victory at the 2018 edition when they defeated Mexico defeated 2-0.
