Cuban actor Rubén Breña died this Thursday at the Hermanos Ameijeiras Hospital in Havana, where he was hospitalized as a result of corrosive gastritis.
The Cubaactores Facebook page confirmed the news, saying Breña, 70, is an “actor who, with his years of experience and wisdom in impersonating a character, has earned what every artist wanted: the love of his audience.”
“He had everything and by far. Rest in peace teacher, your legacy will be eternal. You will always live in the hearts of your people and all your friends. The Cubaactores team sends its deepest condolences to his family, friends and everyone People of Cuba mourning the loss of one of their most famous sons today,” the information reads.
Wednesday afternoon The medical center said it had ‘everything needed’ for the care of Breña, who was admitted to this facility in intensive care.
Hospital officials responded to a post that went viral on Facebook stating that injectable omeprazole and vitamin K were urgently needed to treat the nagging gastritis the artist was suffering from.

Breña was born in Pinar del Río province in 1953 and earned the affection of the public of the island thanks to his work in Cuban radio, film, theater and television.
The Cuban Radio and Television Institute recalled on its website that Breña, throughout his long career, has been able to demonstrate talent and inclination towards various artistic manifestations.
He studied at the Department of Culture’s National School of Theater Direction, graduating in 1970; and during the years that he belonged to the theater groups Zafarrancho and Trotamundos, the latter directed by Verónica Lynn, he studied acting.
He acted in Carlos Goldoni’s The Twins, The Dawns Are Here Peaceful and El Bizco, among many other plays.
Among his most famous television works are also the soap operas “Tierra Brava”, “When the water comes back to earth”, “If you could love me”, “Go out at night”, “Historias de fuego”, among others.
In the cinema, he was part of the cast of the films “Guantánamera”, “Remember Me”, “Vertical Love”, “Nights of Constantinople”, “Roble de olor” and “Habanece”.
In 2019, Rubén Breña received the ACTUAR Award for the Work of Life, presented by the ACTUAR Performing Arts Agency.
