Danny previously admitted he’d taken a dark path before his career in Hollywood.
During the 1960s, Danny spent more than a decade going to and from prison for armed robbery and drug offenses.
The machete actor, who grew up in a troubled home in Pacoima, California, was under pressure after accidentally hitting a guard in the head with a rock while trying to throw it at other prisoners. He said he was facing the death penalty for attempted murder.
He told The Guardian: “I threw it at a group of men and he got hit by accident.
“So we all had gas chamber offenses, and we were taken to the hole, and I remember saying, ‘God, if you’re there, everything’s going to be the way it’s supposed to be. If you’re not there, I am.’ Damn.’
It appeared that God had answered his prayers and the case was eventually dropped for lack of evidence.
He kept his promise to God and has been sober since 1969.
It comes after Danny “filed for bankruptcy” to “rearrange his fortune” and to help deal with his “$2 million tax bill” after “years of falsely claiming deductions.”
The actor starred in the Hollywood blockbusters Machete (2010) and Spy Kids (2001) and also starred as Tortuga in the hit Netflix series Breaking Bad.
Although his film career lingered into his later years, Danny continued to be involved with his various grocery stores, including Trejo Tacos and Trejo’s Coffee and Donuts in Las Vegas.
But according to TMZ, the star is filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, known as a “reorganization bankruptcy,” which allows a company to stay in business and restructure its obligations.
The publication reports the filing was made to settle his massive tax debt, which is said to total around $2million (£1.6million).

Danny reportedly told TMZ that he “falsely claimed deductions over the years that have caught up with him.”
They added that he “jokingly” revealed that he now realized dog grooming is not “a legitimate expense to write off”.
This type of bankruptcy means his various businesses, including his record label and his many Los Angeles restaurants, are unaffected.
His businesses are owned by businesses he “founded to run.”
Danny added that he expects to be debt free by 2024.
