Data glasses: third generation Amazon Echo frame with moderate media echo – notebookcheck.biz

When we think of smart glasses, the first thing that probably comes to mind are spy or science fiction films in which the protagonist observes and analyzes the outside world via an augmented reality interface. While the Snap Spectacles and the Ray-Ban Meta Smart Glasses come close to this idea, the Amazon Echo Frames, even in their third generation, fall far short of this ideal.

Amazon Echo Frames are glasses with open headphones

The Verge compares the Amazon Echo Frames to the similarly named Bose Frames, which are essentially glasses with built-in headphones, which are also essentially glasses with built-in headphones. So there is no augmented reality screen or camera, which only leaves the option to listen to music, make calls using the integrated microphones or make voice requests to Alexa.

The subtle appearance of the Echo Frames, which looks like normal glasses, as well as the different glasses models available are praised. However, PCMag criticizes the lack of bass reproduction due to the headset's open-ear system. Mids and highs are said to be good, but wireless in-ear headphones like the Amazon Echo Buds offer the same features, including Alexa support, at cheaper prices.

Currently only available in the USA

The price of the Amazon Echo Frames depends on the model and configuration (e.g. “Prescription Ready” or “Blue Light Filtering”): The Carrera Cruiser Echo Frames cost around $315, while the Echo Frames have a starting price of around Have $195.
