Davis Cup: Canada defends its title

Canada begins the final phase of its Davis Cup defense on Tuesday when it plays its quarterfinal match against Finland in Malaga, Spain.

The Maple Leaf team qualified for the Davis Cup finals in September by finishing first in a group that also included Italy, Chile and Sweden.

Therefore, the Canadian players will look to retain their title but also emulate what their female counterparts recently achieved by winning the Billie Jean King Cup, the women’s version of the Davis Cup. Félix Auger-Aliassime, Gabriel Diallo, Alexis Galarneau, Vasek Pospisil and Milos Raonic will be Canada’s representatives. Finland, for its part, is represented by Emil Ruusuvuori, Otto Virtanen, Patrick Kaukkovalta, Harri Heliovaara and Patrik Niklas-Salminen. If Canada wins, they will face the Czech Republic or Australia in the Final Four. The other four teams in the Davis Cup final are Italy, the Netherlands, Serbia and Great Britain.

In 2022, Canada won the Davis Cup after defeating Germany, Italy and Australia in the final stages.
