Dejected Deborah Knight takes a walk in Sydney after being banned from 2GB radio

Deborah Knight performed in Sydney on Saturday, two weeks after canceling her final 2GB afternoon show following her layoff.

The popular 50-year-old broadcaster appeared dejected as she strolled alone through her hometown.

Deborah dressed casually for the outing: a pink T-shirt, a denim skirt and a pair of khaki sandals.

The former Today show host opted for a natural look, skipping makeup and completing her ensemble with a simple silver necklace.

She had her glasses tucked into the neckline of her t-shirt as she walked along the path before crossing the street.

Deborah hosted her 2GB radio show for the past four years but was reportedly fired due to poor ratings.

The broadcaster was “shocked” by the messages she received, The Sunday Telegraph reported.

Her salary was rumored to be $600,000 when she started the afternoon radio show in 2020 after being fired from the breakfast show Today.

But although it debuted in the ratings with an excellent 11.4 percent market share, it has since fallen to a record-breaking market share of 6 percent in the most recent survey.

Following her layoff, Deborah announced a major career move to her radio listeners last month.

The former Today star said she would become the “new national presenter of Money News”.

“I am stepping down as host of the afternoons.” However, I will not give up 2 GB. In fact, I’m taking on a new, broader networking role,” she said.

“I have been named the new national anchor of Money News.”

As for current Money News host Scott Haywood, he will “continue to play a big role on Money News,” although Deb did not elaborate on his role.

Deborah is also rumored to be aiming for the weekend newsreader role at Channel Nine, currently occupied by Georgie Gardner.

Alleged sources told Woman’s Day that Deb was hoping to “convince the network that she should be the one anchoring the weekend news.”

“It’s time for Deb to get a role where she has a say,” says the alleged insider.

Another “close insider” says Deb’s reported $600,000 salary could be “cut in half” and that she wants to win her “dream role as a weekend news anchor” to avoid the cut.
