WASHINGTON, United States – Democratic lawmakers in the United States House of Representatives have introduced legislation that would bar former President Donald Trump from holding future federal offices, industry media reported Friday.
The bill cites Section III of the XIV Amendment, which says so If someone holds a government position and participates in an uprising or rebellion, they cannot return to a federal position.
The proposed legislation describes how Trump pressured then-Vice President Mike Pence to refuse to confirm the election results and did nothing to denounce his supporters, who stormed the Capitol for hours.
However, for its implementation to be effective, the law would need to be approved by both houses of Congress just days before Republicans take control of the House, so the chances of moving the text forward are slim.
