The machine starts. One month after the release of the software development kit for visionOS, Apple is offering developers the opportunity to receive a hardware development kit for the new platform. In other words: a Vision Pro.
Interested developers should submit their request to Apple, specifying their skills and existing apps. The manufacturer will primarily provide developers with an app project with headphones that take advantage of the special features of visionOS.
In addition to the famous product, the successful candidates receive support with the right configuration, interviews with Apple experts to design their visionOS app in the best possible way, and special support in case of problems. Like the Mac mini DTK that made the transition to the Apple Silicon architecture, the Vision Pro is on loan and must be returned upon request.
Developers designing visionOS apps can also apply to participate in labs where they can use Apple to test and optimize their projects on Vision Pro. These workshops will take place in Cupertino, London, Munich, Shanghai, Singapore and Tokyo.
The final option Apple offers developers to ensure their app works well on the new product: follow an evaluation grid and then ask to have their project checked remotely by the company’s specialists.
The “space computer” won’t be available until early next year, and then only in the US at first.
