Havana, May 25 (ACN) Miguel Díaz-Canel, First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and President of the Republic, today commemorated 213 years of the May Revolution in Argentina.

From Cuba, a hug to Sister Argentina on another anniversary of the May Revolution, the President declared on Twitter.

The May Revolution took place in Buenos Aires in May 1810 and ended with the dismissal of the Spanish viceroy and his replacement by a local government junta.

This event was communal in nature and initiated an emancipatory process that ended six years later when the Congress of Tucumán proclaimed the independence of the United Provinces of South America on July 9, 1816.

To commemorate these events, every May 25, Argentines celebrate Fatherland Day with various political and cultural activities.
