Selection of Vatican City

The Vatican Football Federation was founded in 1972, but it wasn’t until 1994 that it played its first official game. It has both male and female teams, the same made up of workers and family members of the people who work at the Vatican. Both representatives only play a few international matches a year – mostly for non-profit purposes.

The current coach is Gianfranco Guadagnoli and he manages the men’s and women’s teams. His first meeting was on November 22, 1994 against the B team of the San Marino national team. It was a 4-0 victory for the Vatican, one of four victories they have achieved in their history.

Vatican City teams wear uniforms in the distinctive colors of their flag: yellow and white. Its shield reflects the country’s coat of arms and is surrounded by yellow laurels and a dove of peace on top.
