Dangerous dogs
The video was released by South Yorkshire Police to raise awareness of the increasing danger on England’s roads. The dog was a Staffordshire Bull Terrier that had escaped from its owner and targeted the little girl and her mother, who suffered superficial wounds.
Police notice
According to police, the footage shows how situations with loose, unsupervised dogs can quickly escalate and lead to serious injuries. Paul Jameson, dog rights officer at South Yorkshire Police, stressed: “Your dog is your responsibility. If he attacks someone or causes fear in our communities, you will be held accountable, you will be charged, but your dog is allowed to do that,” even euthanized.
The dog in the video was confiscated by officers but was later returned to its owner, who will face restorative justice proceedings for the harm caused to the victims.
