Dolly Parton has been a country music icon for more than 50 years and doesn’t plan to stop anytime soon.

“I would never retire,” Parton said during an interview with Ken Bruce on Britain’s Greatest Hits Radio last week, adding that she’ll “hopefully one day drop dead on stage in the middle of a song – hopefully one day.” ” have written.”

While promoting her forthcoming album, Rockstar, she added that she’s “always believed that if you want to make your dreams come true, and if you’re lucky enough to have that happen, you have to take responsibility for the dream.” to keep alive.”

Equating the growth of every dream she has to “a tree with good roots,” she admitted with a laugh, “I’m not the type to sit around and do nothing.”

And she means it.

Despite having enjoyed an iconic career spanning decades as one of the most popular country music stars in history, she continues to create new genres of magic and hop.

Since “Rockstar” was her foray into rock music, Parton said the idea of ​​making a rock record was inspired by her induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2022 – an honor she’s notoriously, albeit politely , first tried to refuse.

“They inducted me into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and I thought I should have a decent record to represent that,” she told Bruce, adding that as a country artist, she felt that she “should do something to earn my living”. world of rock.

Aside from making new music, she told Bruce that she also dreams of one day having her own television network producing shows documenting her life, as well as creating a line of fashion, makeup and wigs . Parton is also releasing a book called Behind the Seams: My Life In Rhinestones this October.

“As long as I can work, as long as my health is good and my husband is fine,” Parton said, saying nothing else would stop her.
