Domestic Violence: Charges against Rick and Morty co-creator dropped

The domestic violence charges against the co-creator of the animated series Rick and Morty were dropped on Thursday due to “lack of sufficient evidence”.

Justin Roiland, 43, was accused of domestic violence by a former spouse last January, the BBC reported on Thursday.

But “due to a lack of sufficient evidence beyond a reasonable doubt,” the charges were dropped, a spokesman for the Orange County District Attorney confirmed to the Associated Press.

“I am still heartbroken by the horrible lies being told about me,” responded the Rick and Morty series co-creator, who doubles the voice of the two main characters.

“Most importantly, I’m so disappointed that so many people have been so quick to judge without knowing the facts, based solely on the word of an embittered ex trying to evade due process and get me a ‘cancellation,'” he continued in his post.

Following the allegations, Adult Swim, part of Cartoon Network, announced it would distance itself from the co-creator and continue the series into its seventh season without him.

In May 2020, Roiland had been charged with two counts of domestic violence which resulted in the assault and forcible detention of a woman who was living with him at the time, the BBC reported.
