A Boeing 737900 MAX from the American airline Alaska Airlines made one Emergency landing after a door opened midflight. The incident occurred a few minutes after takeoff, on Friday afternoon (5), in Portland (USA). There were no injuries.

Flight 1282 took off at 5:06 p.m. (10:06 p.m. in Brasília) bound for Ontario, California. The landing occurred at 5:26 p.m. (10:26 p.m. in Brasília), according to information from flight monitoring website FlightRadar24.

Photos and videos posted by passengers on social media show a back door of the plane which was not used open during the flight. There was a seat next to the door; no one sat on it.

According to Alaska Airlines, there were 171 passengers and six crew members on board.

According to FlightRadar24, the Boeing 737900 Max was still climbing at an altitude of 4,975 meters when it had to return well below the cruising altitude of around 11,000 meters.

According to the website FlightRadar24, the open door was not used by Alaska Airlines as an emergency exit. Because it was not in use, it was not marked as a door, which explains why some passengers reported that part of the plane's fuselage or wall opened in midair.

This additional door is present on every 7379 Max to meet passenger evacuation requirements of airlines that use the maximum seating configuration for that aircraft model 193, according to Boeing. Alaska Airlines' Boeing 737900 Max uses the minimum configuration of 178 passengers , the company reports on its website.

Alaska Air said Flight 1282 had an “incident shortly after takeoff” and was investigating what happened.

“The plane landed safely back in Portland (…) The safety of our passengers and employees is always our priority. Although incidents of this nature are rare, our flight crew has been trained and prepared to handle the situation safely. We are investigating what happened,” an excerpt from the note reads.

The US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) reported that the crew reported a pressure problem and which will investigate the incident alongside the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB).
