The representative Henry Kronfle, of the Social Christian Party, was elected leader of the legislature this Friday in the first meeting of this body with 128 votes, an endorsement that resulted from an agreement between several organizations, including the Citizen Revolution (RC) and the Bloc Official (DNA).
He stressed that the country owes the elections to death on the cross, a mechanism used by the president on May 17, and that “the person responsible for the mismanagement is finally leaving.”
He assured that they will work to respond to the needs of citizens from the legislative chamber and to crack down on insecurity using the existing constitutional tools.
MP Viviana Veloz from RC was elected first vice president and Eckenner Recalde from ADN was elected second vice president with 99 votes in favour.
“We cannot be an assembly that turns our backs on the needs of the homeland,” Veloz specified, pointing out that the new government led by Daniel Noboa must take care of the people and rise to their level.
The parliamentarian, known for pushing forward the impeachment process against Lasso, believed that the outgoing president should not be allowed to go unpunished, leaving open the possibility of continuing the trial.
Another event stood out this week in Ecuador, where elected ruler Daniel Noboa received the Letter of Credence from the National Electoral Council, a document that allows him to exercise his functions.
After receiving the certificate, Noboa gave a short speech in which he explained that he had no red lines for dialogue but for action, because “we will never be in favor of impunity and we will not support political forces and individuals who oppose the Want to violate the constitution with impunity.”
He warned that his government would engage with groups involved in corruption and would not support criminal organizations.
The inauguration of the future ruler will take place on November 23rd at the headquarters of the National Assembly and on this day his extraordinary government period will begin until May 24th, 2025.
Lasso’s successor will welcome a country mired in the worst wave of insecurity in history, an energy crisis and problems in its economy.
