At least eight pro-Iranian fighters have been killed in US airstrikes in eastern Syria, according to the London-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.
The attacks hit six people at a weapons depot in the town of Deir al-Zor and two others near Majadin and Abu Kamal, observatory head Rami Abdel Rahman said today.
US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin spoke of “precision strikes” in response to an earlier drone strike on a military base that killed a US citizen.
Reply to “Series of Attacks”
Lloyd said the US Army was doing this in response to that attack, as well as “a series of attacks” recently carried out by groups linked to the Iranian Revolutionary Guards Corps against US-led coalition military forces in Syria. The target of the US attacks were groups “linked to the Iranian Revolutionary Guard”.
