Electric VW ID.Buzz shows off its colorful and spacious interior

Volkswagen creates a buzz around the production version of the IDBuzz concept called ID.Buzz (no concept, you know?). After showing camouflaged prototypes for several months, the Wolfsburg-based company has released the first official images of what the van looks like inside.

In its standard configuration, the Buzz offers room for five passengers and about 40 cubic feet of cargo space. Buyers will be offered a choice of seven single-tone and four two-tone color options. We are told that some take inspiration from the upholstery options that were available on the split-window bus that went into production on March 8, 1950. And two-tone options will match the coloring; vans ordered in, say, orange and white will be available with orange and white upholstery. It’s not completely retro, but it’s a tribute to heritage.

Volkswagen decided not to release ID.Buzz with leather. He has replaced this material with other fabrics, including recycled fabric that is attached to seat covers, floor coverings and headlining. The steering wheel rim is polyurethane.

There are several Easter eggs scattered throughout the Buzz, including the outline of its silhouette etched into the interior plastics (such as the trim at the base of the second-row seats). The designers also integrated an ice scraper and a bottle opener into the cockpit. On a secondary level, the Volkswagen photos also suggest that the Buzz will be as spacious as you might expect, given its boxy proportions. It looks like five passengers can travel on board in relative comfort. The list of tech features the van will be available with has yet to be released, but leaked images published in January 2022 show a small digital instrument cluster and infotainment screen not unlike the ID.4.

Autoblog recently traveled to England to spend time behind the wheel of a pre-production prototype. Built on a modular MEB platform, the ID.Buzz features an 82 kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery that powers a rear-mounted 201 horsepower electric motor. It is 185.5 inches long, 80 inches wide and 76.3 inches high, and has a range of about 250 miles in the European test cycle.

Volkswagen will bring ID.Buzz and ID.Buzz Cargo online on March 9th. Please note that none of the models will be sold in America; we’ll get a long-wheelbase Buzz variant that will debut in the coming months. Deliveries are due to begin in 2024.
