His relationship with Riley began in 2008 when they met in a London bar, which led to a quick relationship and marriage in 2010. The first marriage ended in divorce in 2012, and Musk expressed his feelings on X, posting: “It's been an amazing four years.” I will love you forever. You will make someone very happy one day.”

Reflecting on her decision to remarry, Riley acknowledged the strangeness of her decision in an interview with The Independent, saying: “I suppose the reason for remarriage was just that it felt silly to stay together unmarried after marriage. … We said, 'That's my husband.' Riley filed for the couple's second divorce in Los Angeles, with both parties reportedly agreeing to end the marriage amicably. Musk had previously filed for divorce in December 2014, but withdrew the application a few months later.
Despite their ups and downs in their marriage, Musk and Riley remained on good terms and occasionally saw each other as friends. It was also noted that the couple had lived separately for six months before finalizing their divorce filing. During the divorce proceedings, she was asked if she would marry him a third time, to which she replied, “I mean, never say never.”

Despite the end of her marriage, Riley maintains a positive outlook on her relationship, affirming a “very deep love and connection.” According to a 2022 article by The Independent, she said: “He's a great friend. “He looks after me. We're in a happy place now where we're good to each other, which is really nice. I have the greatest love for him.
The divorce between Elon Musk and his first wife Justine Musk involved significant financial settlements and agreements. Musk reportedly gave Riley more than $20 million as part of both of their divorces. In the first divorce in 2012, Riley received a $4.2 million settlement. After her second marriage and subsequent divorce, Musk agreed to a $16 million settlement.
More recently, Musk has been involved in a custody battle with singer Grimes over their children. Grimes filed legal action against Musk, including a lawsuit in California demanding custody of her children and a temporary restraining order against Musk to prevent the children from being removed from California. This follows Musk filing a custody lawsuit in Texas, which Grimes is attempting to dismiss on the grounds that Texas does not have jurisdiction over the custody dispute because she and the children have moved to California.
