Elon Musk reinstates conspiracy theorist Alex Jones on X (formerly Twitter).

Elon Musk reopened the anti-gun account on Sunday.

The head of the X Network posted a poll on his account late Saturday morning: “Reinstate Alex Jones on this platform? Vox Populi, Vox Dei (The voice of the people is the voice of God, editor's note).”

Alex Jones is best known for claiming that the Sandy Hook school shooting, which killed 20 children and six adults in 2012, was a staged event.

Almost two million users responded to the survey and 70.1% agreed “yes”: “The people have spoken and this is how it must be,” decided the billionaire, who defends a radical approach to freedom of expression, on the night of Saturday to Sunday .

On Sunday morning, Alex Jones' account was visible again, an AFP journalist noted.

He posted a welcome tweet from American-British masculinist influencer Andrew Tate – who is under judicial supervision in Romania and awaiting trial on human trafficking charges.

According to a tweet from businessman Mario Nawfal, he is also expected to speak for two hours during an interview on the social network on Sunday afternoon: “Be ready for a hot moment with the big comeback of X d 'Alex Jones'.”

His previous post is dated September 6, 2018, the day the social network announced the permanent suspension of his accounts after spreading messages and videos that were considered to violate the social network's regulations.

Elon Musk bought Twitter in October 2022 and renamed it X. Since then, there has been a loosening of disinformation rules, a reduction in content moderation teams, and the return of many controversial figures. Several associations have noted an increase in misinformation and harassment.

Alex Jones had claimed that the shooting at Sandy Hook School in Newton, Connecticut, was a set up by anti-gun activists and the grieving parents of the “actors.” His theory had spread online and several relatives of the victims had filed a defamation lawsuit, saying they had been harassed by admirers of Alex Jones.

In 2022, he was ordered to pay nearly $1.5 billion in penalties or damages and then filed for personal bankruptcy a few months after he had already filed for bankruptcy for his company, Free Speech Systems.

Rapper Kanye West also praised Adolf Hitler on his Infowars page in December 2022.
