A violent fire broke out in a residential building on Boulevard Pierre-Bertrand in Quebec City on Saturday morning, forcing the deployment of about sixty firefighters from the Quebec Fire Protection Service (SPCIQ).

The emergency services were called at around 8:20 a.m. about a fire in a two-story building.

When firefighters arrived on scene, they noticed the presence of a vehicle near the building, which led them to believe there might still be a person inside.

While fighting the fire, the firefighters were able to carry out an initial search, but this was ultimately in vain as there was no one inside.

“Faced with the risk of a partial collapse of the structure, the firefighters then changed their strategy and opted for a defensive strategy and began extinguishing the outside of the building,” explains Alexandre Lajoie, SPCIQ publicist.

In the late morning, firefighters were still busy extinguishing the fire. Part of the roof also collapsed during the morning. However, the SPCIQ has not reported any injuries at this time.
