Companies linked to fallen real estate developer Stéphan Huot owe Quebec City a total of nearly $2 million in unpaid taxes since 2020.

Documents released by the city of Quebec show that warning signs began to emerge regarding the businessman in recent years.
In fact, there were already municipal tax defaults at several Huot Group properties in 2020. The bill now totals $1.95 million.

The main debt relates to the 7 Elements complex in Lebourgneuf with a late payment totaling $1.412 million.
For its part, the L’Aventura complex built in Duberger has outstanding bills from the city of Quebec totaling $507,000.
The other two properties with unpaid taxes are the Riviera, a project under construction at the confluence of Père-Lelièvre Boulevard and the Robert Bourassa Highway, for an amount of $22,000, and a 3,600 square meter property on Chauveau Avenue , for a sum of $7,700.
Public consultation canceled
On the other hand, the developer planned a $6.9 million residential project on two industrial properties in Beauport, near Blanche-Lamontagne Street.
The project, called George-Sand, was intended to bring together 260 apartments in buildings with two to four floors.
A third public consultation in the form of a discussion workshop was even planned by the city of Quebec for September 19th and aimed at changing the urban planning regulations. But it was canceled, confirmed city spokesman Jean-Pascal Lavoie.
Stéphan Huot has been making headlines in recent months because of his financial problems, which came to light since the beginning of the year and led to the collapse of his real estate empire and the loss of his numerous companies.
He recently went into personal defense of his creditors for debts totaling a staggering nearly $1.2 billion.
