Nearly a million people surveyed last year
EU more countries for asylum. The acceptance rate increased to 40 percent.
By the end of last year, 636,000 asylum applications were pending across the EU: this is a new record since the great refugee crisis of 2015/16 – and an increase of 44% compared to 2021. The figures published by the Agency of EU Asylum yesterday , Wednesday (USAA) clearly show how the hopeless overload of asylum systems is progressing relentlessly.
The goal of heads of state and government to process applications more quickly to efficiently return people without the right to stay to their countries of origin is becoming a distant prospect. This circumstance is also due to the fact that last year almost a million (exactly: 964,966) applications were made in the EU-plus countries (EU-27, as well as Norway and Switzerland). That was at least half of the previous year – but only 632,000 first instance decisions were actually taken.
