Foreign ministers from the 27 EU states will discuss the situation in the Middle East and Ukraine in Brussels on Monday. Regarding the Gaza war, one of the questions is how the EU can help improve the catastrophic humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip. With regard to Ukraine, further discussions will be held on what long-term security commitments might look like for the country attacked by Russia.

It has recently become clear that a plan by EU foreign policy chief Josep Borrell for long-term funding commitments for military aid is unlikely to receive the necessary support from all 27 EU states. The annual mobilization of five billion euros was expected between 2024 and 2027. It is now being discussed whether less extensive obligations could be an alternative.
