A TikTok challenge asks users to consume 4.5 liters of water daily for a month; A doctor says the challenge can be hazardous to your health.
Influencers on the social network promote the challenge for young people, says the Ouest-France daily.
According to TikTokeuses, the challenge would make it possible to “have shiny skin and reduce certain digestive upsets like bloating.” Some people even suggest that the challenge would help you lose weight.
A family doctor met by the French daily newspaper warns the population about the information given in the TikTok challenge.
“I’m not very surprised that this challenge exists. But we may be surprised when this type of recommendation appears if it is not based on a scientific study,” says Jacques Battistoni.

Excessive water consumption also poses health risks.
“Of course, if you drink so much water in such a short time, it’s a lot of work for the kidneys, which have to excrete a lot of water. Physiologically, it overloads the kidneys,” he adds.
In general, nutritionists claim that 1.5 to 2 liters of water per day is enough. The TikTok challenge recommends more than twice the limit suggested by specialists.
