Voltaire Porto, former presenter of the Cidade Alerta and Balanço Geral programs of Record do Rio Grande do Sul, died Tuesday 13th in Porto Alegre. The journalist was 47 years old and worked at Radio Guaíba🇧🇷
In a note, the radio station confirmed Porto’s death. State civilian police are investigating the possibility that the journalist committed suicide.
At 10:20 p.m., radio host Fabiano Brasil interrupted the broadcast while presenting the Contraponto program to announce Porto’s death. “Rádio Guaíba deeply regrets the death of journalist and presenter Voltaire Porto, which took place this Tuesday,” the statement said. “Voltaire ran the Bom Dia program, one of the longest established programs on the network, Monday through Friday from 5:30 a.m. to 7:00 a.m. As a versatile professional, possessor of a unique spontaneity and bearer of the gift of communication, the journalist had a captive audience. Friends and colleagues sympathize with the family at this moment of deep pain.”
Reading the note, Brasil emphasized that “it is a sad night for us here at Rádio Guaíba”. “A terrible pain here in our editorial office,” emphasized the journalist.
According to the police report, Porto was found dead by his fatherinlaw, who said the journalist had previously attempted suicide. The moderator leaves behind his wife Kamila Machado, to whom he has been married since 2019, and three children.
