BEIJING, Dec. 7 (Xinhua) — Xi Jinping, general secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and Chinese president, will pay a state visit to Vietnam from Dec. 12 to 13, a Foreign Ministry spokesman announced Thursday. Hua Chunying.
Xi will make the visit at the invitation of General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam Nguyen Phu Trong and President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam Vo Van Thuong, Hua said.
Wang Wenbin, another Foreign Ministry spokesman, said at a daily news conference that Xi invited Trong to visit China after the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China last year.
The two leaders jointly laid out the course of the China-Vietnam Comprehensive Strategic Cooperation Partnership, Wang said, pointing out that this year there have been frequent high-level interactions, close exchanges between various departments and regions, and deeper cooperation in various areas has brought noticeable benefits to both peoples.
The world is in a new phase of disorder and transformation with increasing instability and uncertainty, Wang said, adding that China and Vietnam are socialist countries and both are pushing for reforms and transformations that fit their respective national realities. “Greater solidarity, closer friendship and deeper, mutually beneficial cooperation will benefit the common interests of both sides and promote peace, stability and prosperity in the region and the world at large.”
During the visit, General Secretary and President Xi Jinping will hold talks with General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and President Vo Van Thuong and meet with Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and National Assembly President Vuong Dinh Hue, Wang reported.
The two sides will discuss strengthening China-Vietnam relations, focus on six main areas including politics, security, pragmatic cooperation, public support, multilateral affairs and maritime issues, and work to promote comprehensive strategic cooperation between the two countries to deepen and specify, the spokesman said.
This will help both countries jointly pursue their modernization paths with their respective characteristics, enrich the modernization paths for developing countries and create more benefits for the two peoples, the spokesman added. End
