A commercial with Thank you, Massafera for the brand L’Occitane au Brésil sparked controversy on social media this week after internet users pointed out the presence of a “fake cashew tree“. In the video starring the actress and exBBB, a cashew nut appears “glued upside down” to a tree that is not a cashew tree.
In the images published in the commercial, the cashew nut is attached to the tree with the nut and you can see a nylon thread connecting the fruit to the branch. In a common cashew tree, the nut is suspended and the fruit is attached to the branch.
Additionally, Twitter users highlighted differences in the commercial’s cashew leaf, which has a rounded shape, similar to a blackberry tree.
The original release of the video, posted on Grazi Massafera and L’Occitane’s profile, received multiple criticisms for the error. “In my country, the cashew nut comes first”, “I just don’t understand why the cashew nut is attached to the branch with the nut” and “How can you believe in a product where even the advertising (marketing) is already misleading .” “Please, this doesn’t give the brand credibility,” were some of the comments left by Internet users on the publication.

Instituto Caju Brasil wrote in the post: “As representatives of more than 190,000 families working in cashew cultivation, the ICB is at least ‘outraged’ by the lack of knowledge about our species. We sincerely hope that the company will remedy the situation “The industry is already struggling with several problems and it is very sad that the image of its ‘identity’ is being distorted,” he commented.
