Fatal collision while dodging a moose: a thirty-year-old and a teenager die

A 38-year-old driver and his 14-year-old passenger were killed in Alberta on Sunday after they veered from their lane to avoid a moose and instead collided with a truck hauling livestock.

“The investigation revealed that an SUV swerved to avoid a moose, at which point it collided head-on with a livestock truck,” the Redcliff Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) said in a news release, according to the Calgary Herald.

The 38-year-old driver and the 14-year-old girl next to him, both residents of Saskatchewan, were pronounced dead at the scene, while their vehicle reportedly caught fire following the collision.

Police did not provide any information about the connection between the two victims, but said the collision occurred on Highway 41 around 7:25 p.m.

The driver of the livestock truck remained uninjured.

“Condolences to the family and friends of the two deceased,” the RCMP added, according to the Calgary Herald.

Although this tragedy occurred several thousand kilometers from Quebec, it reflects the call for vigilance made earlier this month by Transport Quebec, which recommended keeping your eyes peeled at the beginning and end of the day, especially on the north coast .

Every year the province records around 8,500 collisions with deer, he told TVA Nouvelles.
