An FBI special agent in San Francisco is said to have lied under oath about his communications with Facebook in a case involving US President Joe Biden’s son.
According to the New York Post, this would be a statement by agent Elvis Chan in autumn 2020. The daily newspaper refers to internal Facebook documents.
The FBI investigated Hunter Biden. The police suspected that he had used his father to conduct business deals abroad.
A Facebook employee claimed to have spoken to Elvis Chan in an October 15, 2020 post. The latter mentioned that he was “aware” of the FBI’s investigation into Hunter’s laptop [Biden]and “that there was no evidence” to implicate him.
However, in a November 29, 2022 affidavit, the FBI agent stated that he had “no inside knowledge of this investigation” and twice affirmed that he had never communicated with Facebook except for a conference call with the FBI team.
Even if Elvis Chan may have committed perjury in the civil process, such offenses rarely carry legal consequences unless viewed as part of an attempt to corrupt the justice system.
