The fencers of Cienfuegos are finalizing the details of their preparation in view of the national championship of the first category, which will take place from October 16th to 20th in the country’s capital.
In addition to the most important personalities of the discipline in the country, youth and even school athletes will take part in the fair, the latter will be invited according to their results in the last year of this category.
Speaking to Armando Alejo, fencing commissioner in Cienfuegos, we learned that 16 athletes will participate in each of the three weapons.
In the case of the local army, it consists of eleven representatives (six in the male and five in the female division).
The group consists of espadistas Annia K. Barrueta Miranda, Liz A. Quintero Machado, Léster Oduardo Stable and Dankiel Cárdenas Rodríguez; Saber fencers Daniela de la Cruz Machín, Samantha Curbelo Cantero, Javier E. Lorenzo Sánchez and Manuel Granda Cruz.
The foil fencers Vladian Peña Perera and Ángel L. Delgado Mejías complete the delegation.
The coaching team consists of Ruddy Avilés Jardines (foil), Bárbaro Hernández Escobar (epee), Daimel Ferrer Sánchez and Armando Alejo Hernández (sabre).
Cienfuegos’ goal, according to the commissioner, is to rank from sixth to eighth place per province, to improve on tenth place in 2019.
