A major fire in the car park at Luton Airport, 50 kilometers from London, has led to the British Aviation Authority suspending all flights.

Flames could be seen destroying cars parked on the upper level of the Terminal 2 parking lot.

The fire spread to several floors of the parking lot. A video shows the arrival of firefighters at the scene of the accident.

The emergency services were called, but there have been no reports of injuries so far.

According to Sky News, vehicle alarms and loud explosions could be heard, and a witness said the speed at which the fire reached the car park was “unbelievable”.

Luton Airport, near London, tweeted: “All flights are currently suspended while emergency services respond to a fire in Terminal 2 car park. Access to the airport is currently restricted and we ask people not to enter the airport at this time.”

Russell Taylor, 41, an account director at Kinross in Scotland, saw the flames after flying from Edinburgh to Luton Airport. He said: “Just after 9pm there were a number of fire engines on the upper level of the car park with a car on fire. A few minutes later, most of the upper deck was in flames and the car alarm triggered loud explosions from burning vehicles.”
