San Juan, March 27 (Prensa Latina) The Fiscal Oversight Board (JSF) imposed on the Puerto Rico government is impoverishing workers and retirees, Promises End Day spokeswoman Jocelyn Velázquez said today.
“The austerity measures they impose create terrible social and economic problems that degrade our already terrible quality of life,” the activist said after the seizure of the lobby of the building where the organization operates on the Golden Mile, San Juan’s banking sector .
He emphasized that after more than six years in office, the board only guarantees “to reward those who have plundered the country and led us into misery”.
Velázquez pointed out that the nearly hour-long seizure of the lobby that gives access to the agency’s offices responded to the need to denounce that its purpose is “to hold us hostage to the vulture funds.”
“The dictatorial Financial Control Authority is responsible for the catastrophe of mediocrity, corruption and constant looting that we are witnessing; They continue to bleed our public coffers and our pockets with the constant increase in basic services,” affirmed the spokesman for Se Acacan las Promises.
He argued that the austerity measures imposed are creating terrible social and economic problems that worsen our already terrible quality of life.
It must be clear that the government of Puerto Rico, the dictatorial tax agency, and the United States government are both to blame for the appalling health, safety, education, and economic conditions in which the people live.
Velázquez explained that the call for us is to keep mobilizing, so we need to take to the streets en masse on May Day for the system to understand that it’s time to go back.
In his opinion, the Puerto Rican people have demonstrated the ability to come up with concrete proposals on the challenges that the country is facing, they are the obstacles, since their raison d’être is to enrich a few in power.
“For our part, we will continue to take to the streets and denounce why this looting must stop,” the social activist emphasized.
