Folk art as dance expression at the Cuba va mí festival

At the start of the evening, the Caribbean island’s deputy culture minister, Fernando Rojas, said: “Folklorico, founded by Fidel and Che, integrates the triad of dance expressions that stimulated the cultural policy of the revolution from the beginning.”

“Cuba goes with me” began this Thursday and runs until November 12th. Various Cuban artists from 14 countries will take part, offering music, dance and theater performances as well as exhibitions, books and films.

As I said, the festival is an example of the connections between Cuban institutions and our country’s artists and writers, who live all over the world and recognize the values and unity of our culture to which their works belong, Rojas meant.

Tonight the group presented a varied show with some of the expressions that make up the country’s popular and traditional culture.

The competition, convened by the Cuban Ministry of Culture and Foreign Affairs, is a new opportunity for Cuban artists and intellectuals living in other countries to share their art with the island’s public and those who visit us, according to the website Cubaminrex.

Among the activities of the event, the presentations of the Cuban singer-songwriter Daniel Martin stand out, this Saturday and Sunday in the Covarrubias Hall of the National Theater and the Bertolt Brecht Cultural Center, respectively.

In both concerts, which celebrate his three decades of artistic life, he will be accompanied by the pop-rock band Partes Privadas and other artists from various nations.

Regarding the importance he attaches to this event, he emphasized in an interview with Prensa Latina: Participating in such a complex moment, in which there is so much controversy in the media, means joining the support group for everything we do as a country and as a social project, are, without a doubt, focused on writing the best pages of their history.
