The Colombian Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed the reopening of the consulate in Haiti. The decision was taken after a meeting attended by Jean Victor Geneus, Haiti’s foreign minister, and Foreign Minister Álvaro Leyva, according to the Foreign Ministry report.

The Foreign Minister stressed that the officials’ departure was the result of a merit-based competition and described the situation as “unfair”.

Another topic discussed at the meeting was the immigration problem Colombia is facing as Haitian citizens come to the country to get to the United States. Faced with this issue, it was confirmed that the two countries signed an agreement to cooperate on the matter.
