Juliana Paiva is used to playing fragile girls or funny characters like Marocas from O Tempo Não Para (2018) and Cassandra from Totalmente Demais (2016) and will go out of her comfort zone in Globo’s next seven o’clock soap opera. After being fired by the channel, the actress signed a contract to play the role of a young drug addict and criminal in A Vovó Sumiu, replacing Fuzuê from March.
In Daniel Ortiz’s story, Juliana will play Electra, one of Frida’s (Arlete Salles) granddaughters, the grandmother who gives the plot its name. After the sudden death of her father Pedro (actor not yet cast), she eventually develops anxious behavior and as an adult begins to seek drugs to ease the trauma.
Electra begins dating a ravegoer who introduces her to drugs; You start with the easier ones and move into the harder ones over time. She starts spending all the money she gets from her grandmother on addictions, maxes out her credit card and, when she runs out, sells household items.
Frida tries several times to get her granddaughter admitted to a rehabilitation clinic, but the girl is uncontrollable. One day, after a night in a hotel, Electra wakes up next to her bloodied and stabbed boyfriend. Desperate and not understanding what had happened, she called the police. The boy is taken to the hospital and survives, but Electra is eventually accused of trying to kill him as his fingerprints are on the knife found in that room.
Friends who were with them the night before witness a heated argument between the couple. Since she can no longer remember that night and almost no one believes her because of her drug history, she is sentenced to six years in prison.
Frida even doubts the police version. But time and the lack of evidence that would confirm her granddaughter’s innocence lead the grandmother to believe that Electra killed her boyfriend under the influence of drugs.
When the girl realizes that her grandmother doesn’t believe her, she forbids visits in prison and loses contact with her four brothers. When she gains her freedom, Electra decides to start over again, this time without addiction, to reunite with her ex and find out what really happened that night.
