Four candidates to replace Dominique Anglade as head of the PLQ

Here are four potential candidates to succeed Dominique Anglade in the PLQ ranks.

Pierre Moreau

The name of Pierre Moreau, former Liberal minister under Jean Charest and Philippe Couillard, has been circulating in the Liberal ranks for months.

The lawyer is a skilled communicator, but has announced in the past that leading the PLQ is not part of his plans.

Andre Fortin

The Pontiac-elect, the only Liberal MP elected outside of the Greater Montreal area, was poised in the final campaign for leadership of the PLQ before giving up the race for family reasons.

Alain Rayes

Richmond-Arthabaska MP Alain Rayes slammed the door of Canada’s Conservative Party after Pierre Poilievre’s victory and now sits as an independent.

His regional profile appeals to many liberals in Quebec, particularly since he backed Jean Charest’s candidacy for CCP leadership.

In provincial politics, however, he has an ADQ past.

Alain Rayes, who joined on Tuesday, reiterated that his goal is to complete his term at the federal level.

“I am in no position to seek support or check my support for a leadership race of the PLQ,” he said.

Joel Lightbound

The 34-year-old Liberal, who has been elected from Ottawa since 2015, has distanced himself from Justin Trudeau’s faction on several issues over the past year.

According to our information, the young Lightbound would not shut the door on a possible race to succeed Dominique Anglade.

Aside from the PLQ’s recent Montreal image, it could revitalize training, some say.

However, other Liberals claim he has no foundation in the force and he doesn’t have a reputation for being the perfect team player.
