A San Jose nurse and mother narrowly escaped death after being attacked by a shark while on vacation in the Galapagos Islands.

Delia Yriarte was with a group of tourists when she was attacked by a shark, a situation that shocked her, she told NBC Bay Area, stressing how lucky she was to be alive to share his story to tell.
The attack happened as she was returning to shore after snorkeling near the small island of Mosquera. However, she did not know at the time that she had been chased by a shark.
“When I turned around, I saw blood and said, ‘I have a wound, but I have no idea what kind.’ When I got ashore I was already a bit more tired and anxious and then I realized my knee was torn on both sides,” said Ms Yriarte, who received help. by several people who were present at the time.
Only in the hospital did the doctor confirm that she had actually been bitten by a shark. According to the woman, she did not recognize the origin of the pain because everything happened too quickly.
A long recovery awaits Delia Yriarte, who is recovering from her injuries in Ecuador.
“Five tendon repairs, over 100 stitches in my leg, I still have tissue loss to transplant and probably some more surgeries,” she explained, adding that doctors told her she would be able to walk again after her recovery and rehabilitation.
