The web giant is reportedly working on a new design for the weather section of the Google app. A more modern design inspired by other weather services for smartphones and the graphic codes of Material You for Android.

Google continues to unify the design of its services. After the phone, contacts and even the Play Store applications, it’s the turn of the weather service user interface on a smartphone.
According to an article published by the online medium 9to5Google on May 7, 2023, the web giant is working on a new design for the weather display of the Google application. An interface that inherits the graphic codes of Material You, the visual style developed since Android 12.

Google doesn’t appear close to a leak as, according to 9to5Google, it was an employee of the multinational who would have shared screenshots of this graphic update on Twitter. In the pictures we can see the differences to the current interface: while Google Weather currently offers three tabs for the forecasts for “Today”, “Tomorrow” or the coming “10 days”, the new design presents a single unwinding weather thread.

If you currently had to scroll down the page to get details about the development of the temperature or precipitation for the day, this information would now be displayed directly below the current temperature and the image of the little frog from Google. The weather forecast for the next 10 days is also displayed next.
Samsung sauce material you?
An interface that generally presents the same data as the previous one, but in the Google font and with more rounded buttons and icons à la Material You. This also seems to be the case for new inserts dedicated to the temperature variations of the day, according to the images of the Google employee.

However, alongside these Google-specific elements, the single-threaded presentation and placement of weather data is reminiscent of another service: the Samsung Weather application.
The multinational therefore seems to be taking inspiration from its competitors to update its service. It is hoped that it will continue down this path by eventually offering a weather application separate from the Google application to give users more choices.
