Government approves grants for cultural Barcelona and Avila

Also, the Council of Ministers approved an injection of more than 300,000 euros for emergency works on the walls of Avila, on the proposal of the Head of Culture and Sport, Miquel Iceta.

The nominative grant awarded to the Barcelona City Council for the Capital of Culture status of the capital of Catalonia aims to promote institutions and programs with far-reaching reach and international relevance.

The agreement covers a total of 42 measures, with the period of material implementation of the projects ranging from January 1, 2023 to December 31, 2025.

The plan includes contributions to the Citizen Disclosure Party; Activities related to video games, digital creation, technological innovation and others on the Dog Track; purchase of works of art for municipal museums; La Mercè celebrations; Historical Museum of Barcelona; literary meetings; creative, visual and cultural industries including at the Disseny Hub Museum.

In addition, the “Barcelona Creates 2023” program; Preparation of the Biennale Culture and Thinking; and several works in support of institutions, museums and emblematic foundations of the Ciudad Condal.

On the other hand, the executive gave the green light to carry out emergency work in the

south-eastern sector of the Walls of Ávila, with a budget of 329,862 euros and a five-month execution period.

Following the partial collapse of a wall built on the Wall’s rampart in November 2022 and the completion of an urgent on-site study, immediate intervention was deemed necessary to consolidate the areas at imminent risk of landslides and collapses consists.

The Walls of Avila, built between the 11th and 12th centuries on an ancient Roman fence, are a State property and are included in the list of Spanish Cultural Properties declared World Heritage by Unesco.
