During a New Year's Eve performance of their hit “American Idiot,” legendary punk band Green Day changed their lyrics to take aim at former President Trump and his supporters.

When the band performed the 2004 hit for “Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve” on ABC on Sunday night, they changed the lyrics of the second verse for the MAGA takedown.

Although lead singer Billie Joe Armstrong appeared to distort the lyrics, several media outlets reported that he sang “I'm not a part of a MAGA Agenda” instead of the original line, “I'm not a part of the Redneck Agenda.”

However, the words “MAGA Agenda” were clearly visible during the performance, which apparently drew cheers from the audience.

The song was written as a protest against American culture in the post-9/11 era, with the verses encapsulating the band's dissatisfaction with the country. The original lyrics of the second verse say: “Well, maybe I'm the f——, America. I am not part of a redneck agenda. Now do all the propaganda. And sing along in the age of paranoia.”

Their New Year's Eve performance wasn't the first time the band members performed the song with these anti-Trump lyrics. During the 2019 iHeartRadio Festival in Las Vegas, Green Day sang the same “MAGA Agenda” lyrics.

And during a performance of her other song “Bang Bang” during the 2016 American Music Awards, Armstrong chanted, “No Trump! No KKK! No fascist USA!”

The lead singer's disdain for Trump and conservative political causes has never been a secret. That same year, in an interview with Kerrang! Trump with Adolf Hitler. Magazine.

He said: “The worst problem I see with Trump is who his supporters are.” I actually feel bad for them because they are poor, working class people who are unable to get on their feet . They’re just crazy and he’s taking advantage of their anger.”

“He just said, 'You have no options and I'm the only one and I'm going to take care of it myself.' I mean, that’s fucking Hitler, man!” the musician added.

Tre Cool, Billie Joe Armstrong and Mike Dirnt from Green DayGreen Day's Tre Cool, Billie Joe Armstrong and Mike Dirnt performed “American Idiot” for “Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve” Sunday night on ABC.

Between songs during a performance in France in 2018, Armstrong spoke to the audience about Trump, saying: “I hate Donald Trump so much.” I always screamed that I hated George Bush. This one is a little different. This is bad, it's like acid gone bad. Fuck LSD and the American right, man.”

And in response to Roe v. Wade was overthrown in 2022, Armstrong told an audience in London that he was “renouncing” his U.S. citizenship. He said, “F-America, I renounce my citizenship. I’m going to f—— come here.”

“There is simply too much stupidity in the world to resort to this pathetic excuse for a country. Oh, I'm not kidding. You’ll be seeing a lot of me in the coming days,” the frontman added.
