Guinness Record: The world’s largest dog dies of cancer

The world’s largest dog lost his battle with bone cancer on Tuesday after suffering complications last week after having one of his legs amputated to slow the disease’s progression.

“Our little boy is gone. Our hearts are broken. He had the best doctors sitting on the floor and crying with us. He fought hard, but the pneumonia was just too bad. He doesn’t suffer anymore. He is resting peacefully,” his owner, Brittany Davis, announced Tuesday as part of the GoFundMe crowdfunding campaign.

On Friday, Zeus, the Texas Great Dane voted the world’s largest dog by the Guinness Book of World Records, had his right front leg amputated to prevent his aggressive bone cancer from spreading further.

If the operation had initially gone well, the dog would have suffered from pneumonia in the following days before developing a fever and losing his appetite, his owner wrote earlier on Tuesday, who hoped the young three-year-old Great Dane would be fine again .

“Zeus concentrated much of his life into three short years, ready to defeat cancer. We are very grateful for the time we spent with Zeus. He has brought so much joy and happiness to so many people,” she revealed in an interview, according to The Sun.
