The CIA set up a task force after the Oct. 7 attack on Israel to gather intelligence to help find Hamas leaders in the Gaza Strip and Israeli hostages still being held in the Strip. This was revealed by the New York Times, citing government sources, who said the instruction to create the new task force was conveyed by National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan, while the Office of the Director of National Intelligence of the United States stressed the urgency of Hamas from 4 to 2 in the “ranking list” in which Russia, China, North Korea and Iran are at the top.
According to the American newspaper, the United States has already begun transmitting information to Israel about the whereabouts of the terrorist group's leaders, although it is not clear how effective these tips are, since so far none of the leaders of Hamas – especially Yahya Sinwar, the Leaders of the group in Gaza and Mohammed Deif, the head of military operations, were killed or captured. However, the New York Times clarifies that the United States did not pass on any information to Israel that led to the assassination of Hamas No. 2 Saleh al-Arouri, who was killed in an operation in Beirut on January 2nd.
